Winter sunshine: yello apples are now available

Bringing a burst of brilliant winter sunshine to Australia’s fruit bowls, yello apples are now available through selected retailers, independent and greengrocers.

Exclusively grown in Victoria for Montague, a family-owned fresh produce company, yello apples have a bright yellow skin, a complex aroma with hints of summer blossoms, and sweet, cream-coloured, crunchy flesh.

“yello is a great snacking apple, and a colourful addition to cheese boards and grazing platters,” Montague managing director and third-generation family member Scott Monague said.

“This variety is also characterised by an excellent shelf life and consistency of quality, ensuring a great tasting bite in every apple.”

Originating in Japan, yello was developed by crossing the Golden Delicious with Senshu apples and was first launched into the Australian market last year.

“With its sunny stand-out colour and exotic, tropical flavour, yello was an immediate success among consumers,” Montague said.

Four Pillars head distiller, Alice Glare, tried the apple at a recent tasting and said “the very aromatic, perfumed yello apples remind her of apricots and butterscotch.”
