Woolies release lengthy 90 second TV commercial [video]

Supermarket giant Woolworths has released a lengthy 90 second television commercial which shares the personal story of a Woolies employee.

The ad which was launched last night, was created by Sydney agency Droga5, as reported by Mumbrella.

The employee leaves her sleeping husband and child to rest as she drives past carefree school girls, and watches men enjoying a coffee in a local cafe on her journey.

As the employee's journey continues, the narrator suggests that consumers have less time to enjoy the simple things in life, or “the important stuff”.

The employee enters through the backdoor of a suburban Woolworths, to a brightly lit store full of cheerful staff packing the shelves in preparation of another day of trading.

The voiceover challenges the norm of less is more by stating; “No one here is promising to change the world but the least we can do is our bit to help lighten the load… Why settle for less when we deserve more?” And then focuses on the company’s slogan “More Saving Every Day” above the supermarket entrance.

The campaign is said to run for over six months with a combination of above the line and in store advertising. Woolworths new “Every Day Value” price cutting campaign is set to cut the prices of hundreds of lines by up to one third.
